Christina graduated in Fine Art at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. Now living in the Isle of Lewis for 12 years she previously lived and worked in Glasgow, London and Greece, her love of colour having been influenced by the latter. Christina is presently doing a series of paintings of the Lewis & Harris landscape, with a view of how it would look without the trappings of our modern days lives. These paintings were originally inspired by the lunar events at the Callanish Stones in 2006/7, where the moon was at its lowest point, which occurs in the sky every 18-19 years.

“HARVEST MOON”

The Callanish Stones have featured strongly in her painting, also figures in the landscape, such as the

Mountain range looking like a sleeping women,  

known as ‘Caileach na Mointeach’ (Gaelic).

While painting at this ancient site, the passing bird life made her aware of how transient life is. In a flicker of a moment they fly through a landscape of megalithic occupants that have been standing for 4-5000 years.

Faint figures can also be seen in the Stones, one being a man, or skeleton, which stands at the end of the ‘Cist’ , known to the ancients Celts as a burial site, in another stone appears a women with a baby, Images which possibly reflect the cycles of life. Christina exhibits and runs a Restaurant, Bar, B&B, and is developing an Artist’s studio, which will available to rent out cheaply for workshops.
